Everything: VGAP, RL, or otherwise
Hi.
Just wondering why the Plist ships get so expensive? Titan 14 is taking some time to fill so I've been looking at other games with different Plists, however the cost of the hulls is a bit intimidating. $6,400 for a Nova seems a tad steep.

I'm not a PList developer, but if you consider that you already spent $10,000+ in tech levels before building that Nova, it doesn't sound too much out of relation. In contrast, a Nova for $810 sounds pretty cheap compared to a $900 starbase that has a much smaller battle value.
Finally, there's also PList lite, where everything is on sale 50% off.

True, but when taken with the cost of engines, it seems like it would really slow the game down.

If you take the goal 'build a bunch of silly high-end hulls and look who's got more of them' for granted then it slows the game down, yes.
But on the other hand midclass ships get a real worth for offense and defense even in late midgame. You can actually make use of all the ships your shiplist has to offer because very view can afford the big ones in big numbers. So in my opinion It's fundamentally changing gameplay to a more versatile kind of game.
I'm not so sure about this, as with the standard ship list, those high end warships aren't silly, they are your survival. Especially if you're, say, the Klingon with a few Gorbies coming your way.
But - I won't know for sure until I try it. I just signed up for Phoenix 8.

I've never played a phost or a plist game ... first one I signed up for I choose the Crystals so I can attempt to try them all What I thought weird about plist was the choice of names for beams, torps, and engines .... Kill-O-Zap, I already miss the THOST names.

As far as I can tell, PList names have all been inspired by popular scifi literature. Regarding Kill-O-Zap guns: put on your Joo Janta sunglasses to protect yourself.

Hi Andor.
Sign up for the Titan games. It's pretty close to Thost. Titan 14 is waiting for players.

That's the whole point. In PHOST there aren't coming a bunch of gorbies over for a teaparty unless your difference in economics is so vast that there wasn't a chance to begin with. But than it doesn't matter at all if you play Tims List or PList because if in Tims List there are coming 10 Gorbies and you are sitting there defending with 10 Kitty Hawks that's gameover nonetheless. *shrug*
@ Andor
If you can't warm up to the names, then well... have fun at Titan games here. Though do they have TList names for engines and weapons? Well at the very least they should feel like the old ones in combat. Hopefully.
Everybody shall play the games to have fun in his own fashion. No hard feelings about that.

Hilarious, its been a long time since I've seen The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy ... never watched the series. Had to Google it to get the reference.

One game at a time until I get my space legs back.

I'll warm up to the names, thanks for understanding
