I've never played a phost or a plist game ... first one I signed up for I choose the Crystals so I can attempt to try them all What I thought weird about plist was the choice of names for beams, torps, and engines .... Kill-O-Zap, I already miss the THOST names.

As far as I can tell, PList names have all been inspired by popular scifi literature. Regarding Kill-O-Zap guns: put on your Joo Janta sunglasses to protect yourself.
