Thanks!

Hi. Any chance of T-host games being played here, please?

I am working on that, although with low priority. Current status of THost on PlanetsCentral:

(+) I have the possibility to run THost in DOS emulation on the server.

(-) Things that are still missing:

  1. a turn checker. You want to know whether your turn will be accepted. I am undecided between using PHost as turn-checker for THost, or c2check (a C++ port of check), or nothing. In general, for THost, even detecting that host failed (crashed) is hard.
  2. configuration. Need some way to configure the thing, i.e. convert pconfig.src fragments like this one into an appropriate hconfig
  3. add-ons. I am not sure whether you'll be able to use PTScore with THost.

In the end, nothing impossible, but it takes its time...

In case you're fearing the stellar performance of the server to drop: a PHost run takes around 3 seconds, so I can fit around 28800 of these into a day. Last time I looked, Host in emulation ran around half a minute, which still gives us 2880 host runs a day. We're far from reaching either limit...

On the other hand, I dearly need a THost game. PCC2 claimed to support THost alliances since 2014, and as I found out today, it never really worked...

That would be great. I signed up for Titan 9 because you said it's closest to T-Host, but that was a few weeks ago and it's still waiting for the last two players. Maybe you just need a marketing department? I know there must be a lot of folks wanting to play out there that, like me, aren't comfy with P-Host.

Forgive my ignorance... What are the differences between P-Host and T-Host?

Ship Lists?

Host order?

Commands? (I know in some games you add an allied using "ff5" Fcode, and in other games you send a msg to yourself saying " a a 5 ").

What is that big difference, that prevents us to have such a good player like GILGAMESH? (If you met him playing the Birds somewhere, you are lost).

T-host has no docs, and poor game functionality. I tried to play Thost once upon a time, but after Phost it just previous century

Indeed, after having used the "lay minefield" mission together with a "mkt" fcode, being limited to THost's missions seems like last century. But you can have that in a Titan game as well.

That aside, THost might be easier to set up for a player. The only clients that natively support PHost are the PCCs. All others (Dosplan, Winplan, VPA) need extra setup steps to set up PVCR.

And finally, some people just want the "purity" of the original game. Of course, there are a number of cool platformers, but nothing beats a nice round of Commander Keen. There are plenty shoot'em'ups, but I'm still hooked with the original Descent. (And there are plenty strategy games, and we picked a 20+ year old one.)

Regarding technical situation, PlanetsCentral still does not run THost, but I have built a few building blocks in the meantime. In particular, I got a way to configure and run THost from a Linux script. Right now I'm using that to validate formulas by running a number of scenarios with currently 140 host versions. This has already uncovered a few bugs, even in PHost (Linux/x86 version miscomputes some happiness changes), and quite a number of version dependencies (e.g. THost changed its PBP rules a few times).

Good answeer!

Thank you Streu for the explanation. Please don't break your brain and waste your free time if it does not worth it, we prefer you keeping Planets Central alive the way it is. We miss High Commander host, but Matthias run off of free time to keep it working  Of course we are ready to help if we can.

G'day,

this is Matthias, former host of High Command. It's bee a while. Any T-Host planeteers are still outside there? Problem with T-Host was to keep it running on Win 64 bit systems and that Autotroll has no mail authentification. This makes sending the RSTs a major effort.

Qapla!

This is a testing version.
It may be incomplete, and have more bugs (or features) than the public live version at planetscentral.com.
