It's now turn 4. Any ideas how to end this?

Here is a funny one:
We add up a "rankscore" from all the stats besides total ships, which will be simply the sum of all ranks. Which means a number which may vary from 6 (ranked first everywhere) to 66 (ranked 11th everywhere).

End condition will be to keep a rankscore of 8 or less for 10 turns.
The first turn there as the conditions shall be reached is turn 50. (so the game will end at turn 50 if somebody ends up as the privs did in NorthStar 4, but the game will carry on as long as there is no clear first position)

The players shall than be ranked according to this rankscore (lower is better obviously) using any one of them to decide ranks in case of a tie. (pt-score would be best because that one is always unique for every player)

for my understanding is the the win-condition when nothing is declared - last man standing.

Okay.

But really - is this consensus among all the players?

I would love to play a longer game. But unless there are no quiters and all the players are at least decent in play strength there is no sense cause common scenario in such games is one player has like 100 planets to his disposal and the other one like 30-40 and has to fight for more. It's just not possible to dethrone such monstrous player. So standard turn 80 ending is the best solution.

btw

playing with 5 players left is kinda ridiculous.

Is there a way to end this somehow??

I don't see anything wrong in playing with 5 players. It's a common scenario after first wars are over.

Ridiculous is starting a game without any end condition because finding a consensus in the middle of the game is like mission impossible. Ridiculous is using PTscore as winner determinant.

NorthStar games usually are ending when there is no will to keep going. Just make a voting comcitcat and we will see.

Domain 200-250 planets is the best end condición. At turn 40 the players live in only houses and no atack. The only objetivé is have ships Before ship limit.End a game with 40 starbase and witn no combat ships.

Well I did try to go for some endconditions in the beginning. And I don't think it's impossible now. Just hard.

And if we had some serious wars at the beginning I wouldn't complain but you espescially just burned through an unarmed carrierfleet and built ships for the PBPs. Which is quite a cheap way to go (not that you really had a choice mind ya). Now somewhere else the exact same thing happens to the crystals and IF by any means one of the top 3 players should do the same with the privateers then this game is over without any fun for anyone whatsoever.

To vote on an endcondition right now is out of question as long as darkclow doesn't participate in the discussion. His views are mandatory.

Personally I don't mind to use something else than PT-score. Though FEDs aren't given the same advantage over the rest due to PT-Score as in the usual setups here. As long as we play this will be decided on the field and not via PT-score.

Anyway and regardless to this being a northstar game I propose a nonaggression treaty for the FED, Lizzy and Klingons concerning the privateer space as long as priv-position is vacant.

Just my 0,02 cents

The top 3 races are near one another. Why don't you attack each other????? Are you afraid of loosing? Or what?

ok, did anyone make up their mind about an end condition?

Looking at the score graph I would suggest something like "around turn 100", to sort out the races for first and fourth place.

nah.

I pmed darkclow maybe 2 turns ago and he doesn't react. Therefore we won't reach a consensus and without consensus there is no helping.

no end condition it is then.

And I'm revoking any other suggestion I made. Thx everybody for paying attantion anyway and no harm done, I'ld say.

So are we ending turn 100 or go longer distance? Turn 200 maybe?

For me a longer game, and if no one attacks me, would give me a chance to get to 3rd place, if the feds continue to go down.

But for the top 2 players the game might be getting bored, so... maybe we should end on turn 100. Besides i'm on too many games

Sorry not gonna happen even with a thousand turns more.
From what I have seen in other games you don't have the economy to beat me no matter what.Just lost my HW cluster and if I played seriously my score wouldn't even drop.

May that be as it is...
at the very least this here is a 80% vote (with 20% abstention) for end at turn 100.

I think that should be enough...

 It's a challenge, yes, but the problem is also the other races. If i try to fight the feds i would have to have insurances that the other races wouldn't attack.

This could be very different if the other races were to attack each other and not playing only for the score and economic win. Of course i could have been already wiped out... or maybe the fascists and the feds would be less powerful now and i would be able to fight them, who knows.

Interesting enough i'm able to build more ships/bases in planets.nu than in here and i'm not a premium. I think the fact that there are more minerals in planets and more money/natives in planets nearby the HW is a huge motivator. I agree it maybe less a challenge but it's more fun and it's a different kind of challenge. The fact that you can build more ships faster makes fights more interesting because you have more ships with which to fight and you get more build points to build other ships. This leads also to the economic part of the game. If you don't play you economics well you can't build ships and you loose. So you have a higher mix of economics/logistics/tactics that elevates the quality of the game (and BTW the phost list for the birdmen should have more ships that could cloak and one more like the Deth Specula).

And the end condition for most games is also a good one. 200 planets for 5 turns. It makes you fight for them and in some games it takes almost 200 turns to end it. I like a game where you are the ultimate winner and conquer the other races, but since that's difficult, having almost half of the planets of the echo cluster is a good sign that your race is the best in that game.

So, maybe it wouldn't hurt if you could create a game similar in here. You had to change the code for the initial position of the planets and the quantity of the minerals in each. Take a look and see if it's possible. Maybe even borrow his code for the initial position and composition .

Oh, and the interface.......UAU!! sorry, i never liked PCC much with all those windows, etc. I love VPA and planets.nu is very similar. And i don't have to use DOSBOX which sometimes acts strangely.

Anyway, I know hosting a site like this is tough and i'll continue to play here.I think it's very well done but from time to time we have to change things...

Keep up the good work.
