I suggest using the tequila scorer (ftp://ftp.circus-maximus.com/pub/VGAPlanets/Host.Addons/cact2001.zip). It favors both offensive and defensive play styles and can be easily configured to suit our needs.
I actually like the add-on (and especially the mood established by its documentation), and would like to try it.
However, for the short term, I have to play the killjoy: it's currently a DOS-only add-on. Source code is available, so it can be ported to Linux, but out-of-the box, it does not work.
That aside, adding a completely new add-on is a pretty bold move when we "just" need an end condition
