Solved my own problem I was missing this file

MSVBVM50.DLL

Got it from here

https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/180071/file-msvbvm50.exe-installs-visual-basic-5.0-run-time-files

Reran the Win7inst.bat which puts it in the right place and VCR.EXE now works

Hi, I am a returning player trying to get Planets4 running on my win8.1 system. I have followed all the instructions from the wiki here: http://planets4.hood-net.org/wiki/index.php/OS and have planets4 running fine but whenever I try to run VCR.exe to view a battle this error appears in a pop up:

"Run-time error 282

No foreign application responded to a DDE initiate"

Click OK on the error box and both VCR/Planets close down.

This is different to the error mentioned on the wikki page. I have tried both the directX and win32.dll versions of VCR. Both give this error. The versions I have of VCR are dated 2002-02, are there any later versions out there that I am missing?

Any help appreciated. DrAstroman

This is a testing version.
It may be incomplete, and have more bugs (or features) than the public live version at planetscentral.com.
