PlanetsCentral started operating in 2011, that is, five years ago. Hosting operation on PlanetsCentral started a year later. Time for a look back.

Some numbers

  • 16756 turn files processed
  • 1547 host runs
  • 112 user accounts that have taken part in a game somehow
  • 2057 forum posts in 353 threads
  • 5197 PMs (go, diplomacy, go!)
  • 26795 emails sent
  • 1526 emails received
  • 1.25 GByte weekly backup
  • around 3.5 million HTTP requests served

A look forward

The PlanetsCentral software in its core is five years old, and based on fifteen year old PCC2 technology. For 2017, I'm planning major reworks.

There will be a new filer I'm currently designing. This will allow features like attachments to PMs and forum posts, but also make it possible to implement a version of PCC2 that automatically synchronizes with the server, freeing you from the need to mess with folders like it's 1992.

I'm also planning an operating system upgrade to the server so I will finally be able to offer you SSL (https).

What now?

I probably needn't tell you that it's not all sunshine and rainbows yet. Unfortunately, games still have to fight with drop-outs, and sometimes take very long to fill. However, this is the place where you can help: spread the word. Get your old VGAP friends back. There used to be 60000 of them

But for now, I wish you a pleasant end of 2016 and a great start into 2017. May 2017 be a better year than most people remember 2016. May it be peaceful except for VGAP battles.

This is a testing version.
It may be incomplete, and have more bugs (or features) than the public live version at planetscentral.com.
